And I hope you're not in pain for long, and echo Dr. Gerrie's advice.

I'm not gonna touch the fashion aspect, but personally I find crocs a lifesaver (well, back/neck/metatarsal saver) when I know I'm going to be on my feet a lot -- a cooking or gardening marathon, f'rinstance. I have a bad back and am 65 and the Crocs are the only shoes that make it possible for me to work in the greenhouse, standing for 6 to 8 hours a day, on a hard unforgiving surface. I wear the Crocs and my back says Thank You. I wear a 9 - 9.5 shoe--any readers can send their unwanted Crocs to me.

I find it MOST dangerous wearing Birks. Those are the worse shoes I have ever worn. They don't flex.

One winter I fell three or maybe four times. Hard falls. Never helped up by anyone walking past me. Mostly it was because I snagged my shoe tip on the surface and tripped myself. Now I look down. More often than I look up. None of the falls were while wearing Crocs--I think boots and sneakers.

G cracked a rib, skiing, and it took forever to get better. At least you were spared that dreadful part of last time's experience. I hope you heal quickly and take care of yourself!

Personally, I'd recommend the Merrell clog type shoes. I wore them a few times and noticed how sloppy they'd become. One day I was going up the stairs and the floppy slipper caught and I tripped.
