This week brought a visit from another "Twelve" friend. Diane Perin Hock is touring the Northwest and stopped for a couple of days here in Portland. She and I spent a lovely day together yesterday. I started the day, as usual, with my walk with Beth and Paula. Diane was a great sport and joined us for our walk and coffee. An added bonus were giant Starbucks oatmeal cookies, which we got for free!
Fortified with coffee and oatmeal cookie, Diane and I headed into downtown Portland. Diane had expressed an interest in seeing the Portland Chinese Garden, which sounded great to me. I haven't been there for several years. We took cameras and sketchbooks.
Beautiful, peaceful, serene.
Great pictures. Looks like a lovely tranquil spot. But why free cookies? I never get free cookies and Starbuck's are my favorite. Love, Del
ReplyDeleteOK, here's the story about the cookies. Bear in mind that we are regulars at this Starbucks. Tuesday morning we arrived to learn that Starbucks has a whole new menu and the oatmeal cookies Beth loved were not part of the new menu. "Oh no!" she wept to the manager. "I LOOOOOOOVED those cookies!" So the manager said, "Well, try our NEW oatmeal bar--maybe you will like it as well." and he handed her a free one, which we shared. Then, while we were out on the patio drinking our coffee, out came the manager carrying a package of four gigantic oatmeal cookies. They were left from the old menu and had been removed the night before from the display case, so he gave them to us for free as well. It was truly our lucky day. I seldom get anything free from Starbucks either. I think it had to have been because Diane was visiting!
DeleteIt NEVER hurts to whine!
DeleteIsn't it great when out of town guests get you to those local places you for some reason don't get around to visiting? Such great inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI love the Chinese garden, but hardly ever go. I enjoyed your pictures.
ReplyDeleteOH, NOOOOO! There were no oatmeal cookies in the case when I stopped at my favorite Starbuck's on Wednesday, but I thought they were just sold out, as they often are. I may have to start a BBOC campaign. (Bring Back Oatmeal Cookies). Thanks for the explanation.
