I don't get it . . .

Pulled this out for my solitary little dinner tonight and noticed that it is a "sesame chicken vegetarian" rice noodle soup bowl.

Chicken vegetarian?

Isn't it odd how small the word "vegetarian" is?

The photo on the front of the package shows chunks of chicken in there. The list of ingredients lists no chicken, no chicken broth, no chicken anything and reiterates "vegetarian". Also no mention of chicken in the cooking instructions. Hmmm. I looked in the package. No chicken.

I'm adding some chicken.

You might have to stop watching 60 Minutes, or at least the Andy Rooney segment...

  3. I just had an idea -- maybe it's vegetarian noodles FOR chickens.

That is funny! I remember as a kid, there was a couple who adopted our family--they especially loved our little bro. They were vegetarians and would, on occasion, give Mom some truly nasty stuff (canned soy protein "chicken" comes to mind). I remember wondering then, as I still do, why do people who choose not to eat meat want to pretend that they are? Why not call it what it is: SoyProteinYurgh Salad sandwiches or TofuBlorp stir fry. :o) Can you tell which side of the fence I'm on in the meat/veggie debate?

  5. Just to clarify. There was no "fake chicken", no real chicken, nothing even vaguely chicken-ish in this--only noodles and flavoring and a little packet of sesame oil. I added some grilled chicken. It was quite tasty.

  6. Hmm, bizarre all right. Maybe they just waved a chicken over the packet? I'd have a go at them about false labelling.
