Today we reveal the twelfth set of twelve quilts made by the Twelve by Twelve quilt project. The theme, chosen by me, is "Twelve". All twelve are now posted on the 12 x 12 blog and I urge you to go look at all of them. I have to say I am feeling really quite joyful. We have been at this for two years now, have completed, in all, 144 12"x12" pieces of fiber art and become friends in a way I never thought possible, scattered around the earth as we are. Go here!
This challenge completes our project and could have been the end, but you will be hearing more about the 12 x 12s and it is pretty exciting! Stay tuned.
800
This is my 800th entry to this blog. I just celebrated my 4 year blog anniversary, so that averages approximately 200 entries per year, approximately 4 per week. This number really stuns me. I know many bloggers post every day, some multiple times a day, but for me this is an accomplishment—and a joy. I have always done this for myself and for anyone else who cares to read, but it has been such a surprise to find that people do read, and comment and become friends in time. It is a community for me. I have been so lucky to find all this. And I have been lucky in receiving such generous gifts from other bloggers that I decided to send a little of that generosity back out into the blog world. Leave me a comment in the next few days and Monday morning I will do a random drawing. One of the things I will send is the small piece you see below. There may be some other things too! Tell me something funny or interesting. Tell me about your own blog and where to see it. Tell me what you like, or not, about my blog. It's all good!
"Garden Shadows" 8.5" x 11"
I already have one of your pieces, so I'm not entering into the competition. But just wanted to say hi and glad you are back in town. Well, back close to town, anyway --snort--
ReplyDeleteI'm late with my challenge with Sheila from Idaho, so your 12 x 12 celebration makes me need to get in gear. Tonight! tonight. tonight?
I'm not going to be greedy and enter either--althought I'm tempted--but I will take the opportunity to tell you yet again how much I enjoy your blog and admire your work.
ReplyDeleteI'd love a chance at winning the quilt--very lovely. I've enjoyed following your blog, along with several of the other twelvers. My own blog is here: http://penny-studionotes.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteI also would love a chance at winning the quilt. I've enjoyed following your blog - it has encouraged me by example to experiment with my own art. I'm a bit type A and always heard 'do it right the first time' growing up. Makes it hard to let things not be perfect. Seeing you experimenting and messing about with some technique with no need for a finished work of art has been very inspiring. Happy 800. May there be many more. :)
ReplyDeleteYour blog is a daily read for me. I love seeing your fiber art and especially your little birds. You can check out my blog here:

Congrats on your 800th post! And beautiful 12x! Did you notice it's a bit of an optical illusion if you stare at it too long (the picture, not the actual piece)?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your 800th post.....I have just passed 100 on mine. I really appreciate the mixture of quilts and other stuff that you bring to your blog. And I agree with you....I write my blog for me and it is so much fun!!! My blog is www.francesquilts.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteOh put me in for the drawing! Your blog is one of my most favorite. I admire your frank and open writings. Often I find myself thinking along the same lines Nodding my head in agreement or smiling at a memory that comes from something you wrote about that strikes a chord here.Though you write for yourself first and foremost I am glad that you share it with us.
ReplyDeleteI am not proud! I will always take another piece of Terry Art!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to live with this piece of beautiful art. I enjoy your pieces you post on your blog. You are one of the blogs I look to for inspiration. I also have printed several of your pieces and have them in my studio for inspiration. Thanks for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteThe "12" project is incredibly creative. Each one is so different and yet so special.
ReplyDeleteI love my Joseph bird and would treasure anything you made!
I used your fusing method (with the liqui-fuse) when I read the post where you explained your method, I went out and bought the liquid and the tip. I made a turtle wall hanging using that method. I'm not too skilled yet, but it worked for me. Thanks so much for sharing. You've also inspired me to try doodling patterns when I quilt. The piece you are offering makes me smile. Thanks
ReplyDeleteThank you for your coninuous blogging and sharing of your ideas. I enjoy reading your blog.
ReplyDeleteI have not been blogging so long, and I think of it [http://saras-scraps.blogspot.com]as a quilting journal (with a few digressions!.
My current special interest in quilting is in scrappy and liberated styles.
I check your blog every day. I enjoy reading it. I miss it when there isn't a new post.
ReplyDeleteWe are "helmet hair" sisters.
I have my little Emma Bird sitting right beside me. She is nodding as I type.
I'd love to hang Garden Shadows where I could see it every day.
I've so enjoyed following the 12 x 12 challenge. Your choice of 12 for the final one certainly resonated with everyone - a very cool way to wind up the year.
ReplyDeleteYours has such a calm spiritual feel to it. I can relate to your disappointment in the saturation or lack thereof once printed on fabric. But had you not mentioned it, I would not have thought this was not what you had planned. I like it very much. Very creative.
Congrats on the 800 posts! It's amazing how quickly they wrack up on us!
Terry, your blog is one of the first I go to every day. You always cheer and inspire me -- whether it's with your sewing, your thoughtful comments on life in general, your cozy and colorful home, news of your family, whatever ... I enjoy seeing what you are up to. Thanks for your 800 messages of inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI bookmarked the Liqui-fuse and edge finishing posts, and have learned to use both successfully. I really like Liquifuse - fusible only where you want it is a great concept! Your technique stuff is always interesting, and the grandbaby is adorable.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 4 fruitful years of blogging! Also, congrats on the 12 x 12 project...it's what originally sent me to your blog, and I'm so glad I did, I really enjoy your work - those thin green lines pieces still resonate with me, and I love the expression you get with your birds!
ReplyDeleteHere's to 4 MORE years!
Thank you for 800 wonderful, creative, and entertaining entries on your blog. Wishing you a great weekend. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteI can't temember if I read your blog before the Twelve by Twelve project but it's certainly been permanently bookmarked ever since. I enjoy your thoughtful insights; your beautiful artwork; the glimpses of your homelife and photos from the Pacific Northwest. Happy blogging!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Gerrie, you can never have too much Terry art. I think of you daily as I look at my lovely little bird. Yours is one of the first reads in the early a.m. and, in so many ways, I think we have a great deal in common including...age and helmet hair.
ReplyDeleteHere's to another 800.
The 12x12 is glorious.
Congratulations on your 800th. Although I seldom comment, I read your blog regularly. I am very impressed with your work and would love to be entered in the draw.
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to congratulate you on your 800 posts and thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I enjoy visiting your blog and seeing your latest works. I love your birds! Feel free to stop by my latest blog project if you like: http://memoriesofmymother.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteWow - 800 posts!! Here's to the next 800!!!! I love all the creativity you put out there, especially your doodling. Although I haven't had time to get much fabric work done lately (unless you count the paint on canvas) your work inspires me so much & makes me want to go play in my fabric stash. My blog is sistersoftheart.blogspot.com. Thanks so much for sharing so much of your life, Terry!!!
ReplyDelete"Garden Shadows" is welcome in Delaware. 800 blogs is quite an achievement. Also, your piece in 12x12 is probably my favorite for the last challenge.
ReplyDeleteOk Ok, I know I am family, but I will "enter" with the chance that I never win anything! I love reading your blog and seeing your pictures. I feel closer to your "Portland World" and I enjoy hearing about what projects you are working on!
ReplyDeleteHi Terry,
ReplyDeleteCongrats both on the culmination of your 12 x 12 and also on your 800th post (I had to go back and check that number, as it just seems unfathomable to me!)!!! Thanks so much for leaving a very nice comment on my blog this evening: I feel so honored to count you as one of my blog buddies! Your Garden Shadows piece is lovely: so peaceful and calming.
Take care, and once again: CONGRATS!
xo
There is only one word. STUNNING!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am a lurker...I love your site your artwork is so creative. I often think, "why didn't I think of that?". I found your site when I linked from a 12x12 member site (Diane) and found the blog, then checked out everyones sites.
ReplyDeletePat
Congratulations on your blog anniversary. I enjoy looking at your blog every day. It is my morning "cup of cloth" so to speak. You are talented and very "down to earth" no "fast cloth movement"here. thanks for being here. Janet Wright
ReplyDeleteTerry: I dont' have a website or a blog, but when I have read your blog, I look at your picture and say, "she looks like fun...I'd like to get to know her." My daughter lives in porland, so maybe some day. Something interesting about myself...Well I used to model for a famous painter and I've hung in musuems all over the uSa. And it was a nude. sorta. I had a robe on, but the front was open. OH>>>and I'm going to study with Nancy Crow a week from today. & Sue benner too. So my email just in case I win is dconcster@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteBest Regards Diana
Terry, your wonderful blog has kept me going on many days, and has inspired me to get back into my love of quilting and fabric arts after too long of a dry spell while my life recovered from many changes. Imagine my surprise to also rediscover how connected this world is when I read about your friends Bill & Carla...you see, I've been familiar with their names through my friends Dave & Robin for years. So, thank you, woman, artist, collaborator, teacher, and more!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 12 and 800 from Lyn
I'm not posting for a prize either, but you know I love your articulate and insightful writing as much as I do your work.
ReplyDeleteI've read your blog regularly, I think since I bought one of your journal quilts in the Katrina fundraiser. I love your mix of art and family, and your thoughtful musings. You've inspired me to keep at my own art. Mostly, you've just seemed like someone I would enjoy getting to know. I'm at http://fiberhart.blogspot.com- and I'm not proud either, I'd love to have another work of yours!
ReplyDeletecongratulatons on your, WOW, 800th BLOG. Love the GARDEN SHADOWS piece. Love the peaceful colors. Reminds me of the house in Newport, RI with the Tiffany window wall (squares of blue glass).
ReplyDeleteI have been following the 12x12 group and all your blogs for awhile. It is fun to see how the different themes are interpreted each month. Your blogs are also varied and colorful!

I enjoy your blog, but don't think I have ever left a comment. I was just in Portland and enjoyed it very much.
ReplyDeleteI love the 12x12 group. I am a member of a group about that size: Sisters in Cloth. It's wonderful inspiration.
I don't remember how or when I discovered your blog,(it was probably a link of a link of a link), but yours is at the top of my list. I check it daily and am always delighted to read your stories and gaze at your beautiful photos. I was inspired by your 12 by 12 group to start a similar one in our quilt guild. Thanks for sharing so much of your life.
ReplyDeleteTerry,
ReplyDeleteI initially discovered your blog through Gerrie Congdon. She designed Kyoto II for me. Please put my name in the drawing, because I'd love to haver a piece you designed.
I enjoy travel and never tire of Washington, DC. We take our granddaughter up there annually. I'd be there today for the Turkish Festival if I didn't have to go to work tomorrow.
Check out my blog about my trip to Turkey: http://www.fazlaturkcebilmiyorum.blogspot.com
The translated title says "I don't speak much Turkish."

Hi Terri, A first-timer to your blog, and all the way from Australia, I am intrigued. As a keen viewer of the fabulous 12x12 creations from your group, I have been led to your blog. The designs on your quilts are stunning....ytour work is beautiful. What I like about your blog is the way you introduce newcomers to your land and your reflections of community life. You have made me think that I need to broaden my horizons with my little blog. Thanks for sharing - and good luck.

Hi there. I do follow the Twelve by Twelve and now I am following you. I quilt and now I have joined an art doll group on yahoo. I don't have the time but hey, the first doll I am doing is only 4 inches so it shouldn't take long. BUT, so far it has taken several days. I'm not even keeping it since it's for a swap.
ReplyDeleteI do like your work and I would love to own one of your pieces. I look forward to seeing more in the future.
I'd love a chance to win the quilt. What I like about your blog is the balance between personal stories and pictures and the pictures of your wonderful work. My blog: www.lifescrapsandpatches.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteHi Terry, congratilations on your 800th blog posting! I have been following the 12x12 blog for quite some time and have added your blog to my bloglines quite a while ago as well, although I have never left a comment. I admire your quilts and would be thrilled to win one! I am a Dutch quilter living in Brisbane, Australia, since March 2007, with my family. My blog is here: http://q-linda.blogspot.com/ - I'm almost at the 200th blog posting. I have been quilting for 3 years now and am slowly moving into the art quilt scene. Best wishes from Brisbane, Linda
ReplyDeleteWhat to tell ? I do enjoy your blog very much. I like the strong rich colors of your work. Haven't got a blog of my own, but I'm considering it

WOW! I'm awed by how many posts you've done. It's an inspiration to me. I know yours in one of the blogs I read regularly.
ReplyDeleteI don't see the comment I thought I posted on here Oct 1st. Guess it is lost in cyberspace. I admitted to being greedy and asked to have my name in the hat for your lovely piece. I think your 12X12 "Twelve" work is the best. Interesting process. Del-at-home
ReplyDelete800 entries! An amazing feat, Terry. And yours is an amazing blog that I recommend to friends. I love the combination of photos and commentary. Truly excellent.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you have 800 posts on your blog! AWESOME! I just started and I'm a bit lost with my whoping 2 posts.
ReplyDeleteI love the 12x12 project. It's so inspirational. I'm sure it would translate into a book project easily. :-)
Oh darn, I was busy with a baby shower and just now saw the post. Wow 800, that's impressive. I don't remember how I actually came to your blog but prior to that I had no idea of the scope of textile art. You (and the 12x12) have opened my eyes to a brand new art form and given me great pleasure. Thanks and congratulations on 800+
ReplyDeleteCeleste
Terry, this treasure arrived yesterday and it is even more beautiful in person. Thank you so very much! Hugs, Dotti
ReplyDeleteWow.. 800 posts... I hope you get 800 comments! I always check out your blog, in fact, I look to you as a bit of a 'guru' for many things, you have a wealth of knowledge and share so liberally.
ReplyDeleteI first met you when I posted to my then blog about the house in Portland I had made and wondered if anyone knew or recognized that house...
The best always... in your work and in blogging.. and in life.
And a piece of you artwork wouldn't hurt my feelings...
Terry, I have been a faithful follower of your blog for some time now and love the pieces which you create. Too me, you have always been very generous in sharing your vast knowledge with fellow fiber artist, and I for one, greatly appreciate your openess. Thank you very much for adding to my knowledge base and taking me on wonderful journeys.
ReplyDeleteI have admired your work for some time and would love to win one of your pieces. The fact that you have written 800 blogs in 4 years is very encouraging to me. I just started blogging 2 months ago and have really enjoyed writing. It seems to put my thoughts in order.
ReplyDeleteHi Terry,
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed following your blog for sometime. Enjoy the process and consideration of each step you have shared. Like the solid decisions based on knowledge.
Used to enjoy spending 2 weeks at Cannon Beach coordinating watercolor workshops there. While I am in the Southeast, I love the Pacific Northwest and miss it!
Thanks for your sharing!
