Digital drawing Day - Shoe

"Shoe" became "shoes" because, well, you know. One shoe is too lonely. This was another experiment.  You know I have been trying to simplify and be more spontaneous. So, I wondered what would happen if I took a photo and then just quickly, and kind of sloppily, drew over the top of it. Each color was a layer, with the last being the black line. Then I eliminated the photo layer. Total time about 10 minutes.

I really like limiting the time, the color and the layers to get to the basic form. I think doing a lot of quickies like this could really be a great exercise in seeing basic structure.

  1. Yes. It says shoes without actually having constructed shoes. Sometimes constructing something (meaning something like thinking through all the processes of how it became a shoe to inform your work) is a good thing if it needs to be just so. But simply depicting a shoe has its place too.

  2. Terry, I love your bright red shoes and can feel the energy and spontaneity! Your digital drawing last week using yellow inspired me to do some of my own. I like yellow but realize that I don't use it in my work, so I tried a few digital drawings with yellow. You can see them on my blog from last week. They were fun!!

  3. I think, with each experiment, that you are finding your own way of doing this. I like the new loose-nes (if that is a word). Now to translate that into your little fabric squares!!!

  4. We kind of do that in life drawing class. We start with super quick 3 to 7 minute drawings so that all we can really concentrate on is the proportions and gesture. I like your shoes.

  5. Love the red shoe drawing. It feels spontaneous and not contrived. You've inspired me to play a little too. I have a Google Nexus with a drawing app and it's been fun, but haven't figured out how to get the images back to my computer yet. Technology is the future, so best get going!

  7. I love this style. So loose and free and I can also see it being made in fabric, too! Sorry I haven't been doing my digi drawings, Life has been a bit drastic lately and something had to go!
