Those tabs up there

Have you ever noticed those tabs at the top of this blog, just under the banner? Blogger added the ability to create "pages" awhile back and I have been slowly adding some content in separate pages. I just, this week, added the "resume" tab and the "current work" tab. Tonight I updated the "studio" tab with some more recent photos.

I don't have a web site, so this seems like a good alternative, but I wonder if anyone ever notices the tabs are there, and then if anyone ever looks at them. I am thinking of adding another tab that would contain some of the tutorial type posts from the blog. I am interested in your feedback. Are those tabs even noticed?

  1. Terry - I look at them, but am not sure when you have edited the different pages. An indicator is needed to show what has been updated. Maybe an asterisk on the tab - suppose that isn't possible. Maybe you could put a top line with "Updated - resume" or "Updated - small works". Meanwhile I'll just run through them when I have the time. I think this is a great addition to Blogger, but I wish they hadn't done it while I am traveling and have no time to figure things out.

  2. Terry, I have noticed them and have used them. :) The red lettering about the tabs catches my eye evertime I visit. Wishing you a fun weekend (and hopefully a drier one).

  5. I pounced on the "Pages" feature when it first came out but you are right, one can expect people to go rummaging through your tabs on every visit.

a simple fix - when I update a page, I make a short post to the blog with a link to the page (except my "faces" page which, although not private, probably not interesting to anyone but family).

  6. I've noticed them as well and explored... I love this new feature, it really does expand this to a website rather than just a blog. And I think a tutorial tab would be great!

  8. I think the tabs are a great way to keep things organized and right at your fingertips, instead of searching through past posts.

  11. I noticed them, but only when I go directly to your blog+. Normally, I read your posts through an RSS feed, so I don't see any of the pretty stuff. That's my loss though, not yours. Usually, I check out a blog or a site and explore, and then if I like it, I subscribe and continue reading via the feed. Every now and then I'll check back to the original site and see if there's any new goodies. I am rebuilding my own site, based on Wordpress and it's pages, and I too will be using all those wonderful tabs because I know people will check them out at least once.

  12. Hi Terry - I do check the tabs now and then, but I agree with the suggestion that changes be mentioned in the blog. I really enjoy your blog, it is quite delightful and thoughtful. And I appreciate that you enjoy doing it. Win-win!

  13. I looked through them when I first started following your blog quite awhile ago, but haven't checked back. Now that you mention it, I will. I especially love the pix of your studio! It's such a lovely space.

  14. I look for them because I use them on my blog and in my "store" which is a blog where I sell things. Each tab is a product line. On my blog I have each tutorial in it's own tab/page for easy retrieval.

  15. I don't notice them because I read blogs with Google Reader..so unless I switch over to comment on something or someone says something about them in a post, I wouldn't know..but..now that I DO know you have them..will click on yours to see what's up!

  16. Terry- I have used up all my tabs and also wondered whether if was just for my own amusements, but when I check my stats I do see that a lot of the exit pages are indeed from my tabs- now ether than mens they are scared away OR they look at them! I think it would be an excellent place for tutorials too- and just note in your blog that you've added a new one, or if you're referring to something give shout out that the info is in the tutorials or the New Work or wherever. Now I gues I should go clean mine out a bit!

  17. I love the tab feature and use it on my own blog. It's a neat way to get around and organize content I think. I especially like a separate tab for showing completed work and tutorials and a home button so I don't get lost. I'm geographically challenged even in cyber space.
