The naughty fabric

As I mentioned, I have been sorting through my fabric and organizing my sewing supplies. Today I came across a piece of vintage fabric that I had forgotten I had. Many years ago, when I owned a fabric store, a customer who had become quite a friend, came into the store and said she had a little gift for me—a small piece of fabric she had purchased at a yard sale.

At first glance it looked like a nice paisley-ish print.  Look closer. Each of those nearly oval shapes has an image of a young woman—wading in water, jumping rope, dressed in old-fashioned clothing. And—
showing off her underwear. Pretty fancy hose and garters on the first one and then that second poor soul, caught with her arms full of groceries and her panties around her ankles!

What do you suppose this fabric was used for? I have to believe that it was designed by a man, with a vivid imagination.

Don't you just hate it when you're hurrying toward your car, with your arms full of groceries and your underwear falls down? I know I do.

  1. If you can't think of anything to do with this funny fabric you can put it on your Etsy site. Or can you? Is Etsy just for handmade items? I'm sure someone would love to have it. It is pretty mild compared to some of the gals on motorcycles prints out now.

  4. I love that fabric! At first glance it looks like the Indian print bedspread I sewed into curtains for my first apartment in Berkeley.

Falling panties: It's the celery, apparently. Who knew?

  6. I know you could sell it in a minute but I wouldn't part with that EVER. It's a treasure. Maybe you could frame a piece. It certainly reminds me of those Indian prints back in the 60s. AHH! the memories of the Hippie days come flooding back(at least the ones I can remember, shhhh)

The worst part of your underwear falling down is tripping and dropping the groceries!
