I had an interesting discussion with Sofia today. She and I spent some time together and we watched a couple episodes of "Sofia the First", a Disney cartoon show about a little girl who becomes a princess when her mother marries the king. We, of course, are mostly interested in her because her name is Sofia, but the shows were quite sweet and had some nice lessons about how
real princesses don't forget their old friends and how they are subject to the same standards of empathy and good manners and honesty, etc, as other little girls. Anyway, after we turned it off I asked my Sofia if she would like to be a princess and if so, would that make me a queen? "No," she said, "my Mom would be the queen and besides princesses don't have grandmas." They don't?! "Well," she said, "I have seen a lot of shows and movies and read books about princesses, and I have never seen a grandma in any of them." This was disturbing news, but who can argue with Sofia? She knows quite a lot about princesses.
After she went home I was browsing FaceBook and blogs and came upon
this unfortunately titled story about Queen Elizabeth. And I said to myself, "hey, wait a minute—Queen Elizabeth is a grandma! In fact, soon to be a great-grandma." I could totally be a queen—
The Queen of Photoshop
I wouldn't want to be the queen right now, she's in hospital with the runs....!
ReplyDeleteNice pic - you suit purple ;)
What a hoot! You'd make a glorious queen and you look especially nice in periwinkle! Poor QElizabeth, how undignified to have the runs, royal or not. I'm sure she is not pleased with the publicity. Del
ReplyDeleteI wonder if there is a child's story of Anastasia - daughter of the Czar. The adult story had her meet her Grandmama. There is a Sophie in the story - a cousin.
ReplyDeleteSandy in the UK
kind of worried about the Queen at the moment.
Yes, purple is your color!
ReplyDeletelast commenter is right! Normally it's good to be the Queen-not so much right now. I'd bet that most of England has the tummy trots now thinking of that son of hers being King.
ReplyDeleteAgain with the hats!! lol
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny! Your photo makes me think of "The Cat in the Hat". (giggle, giggle)
ReplyDeleteWhere's your matching purse to prove it? Tell her you're the Queen Mum! LOL
ReplyDeleteYour color, for sure.
ReplyDeleteYou'd make a lovely Queen --with Mad Hatter overtones :-) You need to tell Sofia about the "Queen Mum" who is of course the Queen's mother. And I think there's that Princess Diaries movie with Anne Hathaway where, if memory serves, Julie Andrews is her grandmother.... Gosh, I miss those little girl "princess years!"
ReplyDeleteI love it! Diane is right about the Mad Hatter overtones - but the Queen's hats DO look like that.
ReplyDeleteTerry, you look marvelous in periwinkle.
ReplyDeletePrincess Diaries with Julie Andrews as grandma! Time to watch that one!
