Hope for Haiti

Did you watch? I hope they raised a lot of money. I think maybe my very favorite performance was by Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris. I never thought I would use the words "Justin Timberlake" and "favorite" in the same sentence! Will wonders never cease? I still don't know who Matt Morris is, but he was terrific.

The mood of the show was somber and most song selections were serious and well chosen. I also loved Shakira's performance, but I have to say the Neil Young/Dave Matthews duet was a real downer. A dirge. But I see from the comments on YouTube that a lot of people loved it. Whatever works, I say. All in all, a great effort for such an unbelievably tragic cause.

  1. I only watched a little bit of the show. This song is in one of the Nia routines we do and is very moving. This was a good version, too.

  2. It was one of my favorites from the show, too. I wasn't familiar with Matt Morris, either, but, based on reading about him on Wikipedida, I'm guessing he and Justin Timberlake have been pals since their days on The Mickey Mouse Club. Those mousketeers must really stick together ;)

As much as I wanted to like the Young/Matthews duet ... I agree with your assessment. I think that's when I decided it was time for some dinner.

  3. If anyone can do a dirge, it's my man Dave. Love Dave Matthews, but he can be kinda dark. I'm sorry I missed the show.

  4. It's a shame that it took a giant earthquake to raise money for what has to be one of the poorest countries in the world. There are a lot fewer mouths to feed now. But there are a lot more people with no roof over their heads. At least it's in the tropics...

  5. I was surprised at how sweet Justin T's voice is. We watched the rest of H4H after walking home from a Mercy Corps benefit happy hour at the little grocery store/coffee place/deli around the corner. They raised $800!

  6. I too was surprised at Justin Timberlake's rendition of Hallelujah. It was my favorite of the show and one of the best versions of the song that I have ever heard. I thought the show was tasteful and well done. I appreciated that the artists didn't speak except for reading out speeches. It was much more powerful that way.

  8. I love this song ad have the Rufus Wainright version and the Leonard Cohen version on my ipod. I also like Madonna surprisingly. What a wonderful way to raise money.

  9. Justin T. does have a wonderful voice...I have been listening to him for years since my daughter was an NSYNC fan. I am guessing he and Matt have been doing this song together for quite a while, not just as a quick choice for this benefit, but I could be wrong.

My husband had heard, some time in the past, that Neil Young doesn't care to sing his songs with others...so Dan was surprised to see him together with Dave M. Maybe that affected to outcome...

My daughter works at a little corner store here in our area and they are collecting donations that are going directly to an orphanage in Haiti. One of the employees knows one of the women working there that survived the earthquake, so the money will go directly to her. My daughter also knew one of the young women who didn't survive...sad.
