Quilt magazines and other stuff

Where have I been? Not attending to my blog, that's for sure! It's been a busy week and I have done a lot of cooking and eating—family dinner on Sunday for my son-in-law's birthday. I made Chile Verde and another loaf of the no-knead bread, which I coated with sunflower seeds, poppy seeds and sesame seeds for a wonderful seedy, crunchy crust. It was very good! Also doing some design work and some heavy duty layout work, revising the Columbia FiberArts Guild roster.

Yesterday I went to the CFG board meeting and one of the other board members there had brought a magazine to show me that my quilt for the "Beneath the Surface" exhibit was shown in it. Wow! Nice. That is the second time recently that has happened. A friend mentioned another magazine several weeks ago, that has one of my birds in it. It wasn't made by me, but made from my pattern design and I was given credit for the design.

I was not aware of either of these until someone else pointed them out to me. Great surprises and very flattering. I have to say I never tire of seeing my work and name in print!

I am still working on my Northwest Vibes quilt and I loved the comments about my portrayal of rain! I especially enjoyed June's comment about the "mooshy" combination of fabrics—mooshy being one of my least favorite things and something I do not admire in art quilts. Have patience, June. I think you will see the purpose for the moosh once it all comes together.

A progress shot. There are still big changes to come, but straight vertical lines are what I settled on to indicate rain. Kristin suggested they run at a slight angle, but this is rain that just falls straight down out of the sky. In fact, that is what is going on here today.

  1. Congrats on the good press.

Of course! Rain is regional -- my rain would be at an angle due to all our wind, but your rain is different; maybe even mistier than mine (which would necessitate a different sized thread).

  2. It definitely was coming straight down and was cold!

  3. Congrats on the media exposure! It’s fun to discover mentions that you didn’t even know were in the works.

  4. Hey, congrats on the magazine exposures -- what fun suche presents are to be surprised by.

And I know you'll settle the hash of that putative moosh -- no nonsense about moosh allowed when Terry's aworking!.

By the way, Jer and I just had a discussion about some convases of mine -- he's in your camp. He's not terribly fond of moosh, at least not as it is employed contemporarily (even by his dearly beloved). He allows the Impressionists their fun, but objects a bit to mine --snort--

    I'll be patient.
