Guerrilla art

I have talked about the walk that my friend Beth and I take nearly every day. It is on a beautiful trail called the Fanno Creek Trail. The last time I posted about the trail I showed you this picture of the razer wire that the Portland Golf Club put on their fence where it backs up to the trail. Ugh! What an ugly addition to our beautiful walk.

It bothers me. Whatever their problem has been, it seems like an extreme reaction to make that section of trail look like a war zone. It's unneighborly to say the least.

Beth and I decided it needed some attention called to it—some beauty to counter its ugliness. So I made a small piece of fabric art to hang on it. I did not expend a lot of time or material as I fully expect it to disappear, but it is a small statement. It will be interesting to see if there is any reaction. I will keep you posted.

  1. You're right, it may disappear. But then again, maybe others will add other little bits to comment and decorate. Wouldn't that be an interesting development... The wire could serve as a bulletin board.

  2. Morgan and I used to walk on the Beaverton section of the Fanno Creek trail when it first started. We participated in clean up parties several times. I'm with you: such ugliness. Keep us posted, and I hope Jenclair is right and more art appears to join yours.

  3. I LOVE that you did this and hope you'll keep us posted on whether it stays or disappears and if anyone else adds anything!

  4. Yeah for you and Beth!! I think I will send a link to your blog to the Oregonian!! Just kidding.

What an awful thing to do to such a beautiful place but since it's a golf course it makes sense. They use so many chemicals to keep the grass green and pristine that I'm sure they couln't care less how they affect others daily. I hope you have begun a trend.

I wonder how long it will last when someone trips and gets cut and sues the idiots? It encroaches on land that is not theirs and therefore they will be completely liable if/when someone gets hurt.

I vote to put LOTS of stuff on it to make it less horrible and also make it safer!!

  7. Reminds me of Greenham Common!!!!!!!!
