In my own backyard

I am designing a piece for an invitational show of fiber art with the theme "It's good to be green". The curator says interpret this any way you want. My plan is to include a lot of foliage and flowers in my piece, so I went out looking for inspiration this morning. I didn't have to look very far.

And here's the gardener. Picking blueberries.

  1. Nice garden. What are the purply-pink leaves?

My garden isn't "taking off" so well this year. Last year was the best ever, but I was gone a lot due to family matters. I was thinking that maybe the neglect helped, but that was an illusion.

  2. The purpley-red-pink leaves are heuchera, also called coral bells. We have several varieties. The color of the leaves varies and some are even more dramatic than the ones pictured. Ray says the lighter pinky-red is due to them being a bit dry just now. Normally they are purple-red.

  3. What is the name of the flower in the 4th picture? I also have lots of heuchera and depending on how much sun it gets, the leaves are different colors even tho the name of the variety is the same.

  4. The white flower in the 4th picture is a hydrangea. The dark pink/red flower in the last picture is also a hydrangea.

You are so blessed to have such a beautiful yard...how inspiring! It is to hot here in Idaho for our flowers to look perky during the day. I am looking forward to cool nights at the cabin!!!
