Continued . . .

So, after a couple more tweaks of the design, I came up with this.

I printed it and took it to the studio, where I started tracing the parts on fabric to be fused to a dark teal blue background.

This is the sample I made.

I don't love it. I think I need to go back to the drawing board.

  1. Could you do some of your doodling stitching in the light blue and the yellow portions to add some texture and depth?

  2. Hi Terry, Love reading your blog especially when you are "teaching" about vector graphics. I think your design is fighting itself. The heart is symbolic of love and warmth and everything fuzzy. The jagged lines within the heart are symbolic of broken, nervous energy. Not that you asked, but that is what struck me when you put the colors to it! I am enjoying my 12x12 book.

I am OK with the Composition- I think if you punched the values a bit..it would be good the value heavy on the bottom......my 1/2 cent due to inflation and recession

  4. When I first saw the design in the other post, I thought it was a hot air balloon. Now, unfortunately, I can not get that image out of my head.

  5. well pelt me with your rejects...it's the dark to light, bottom to top that gets my attention. the hot air balloon impression is a nice relief/balance for the too strong imagery of the heart shape, in my humble opinion.

  6. Could you cut the (some) of the sections freehand? Use more printed fabric? It all looks too tight.

  7. the thing that jumps out at me with this design is NOT a heart. i'm seeing two hot air balloons. maybe i'm weird... i know you are shooting for a heart design, but when i look at it that is not what i initially see because of the zigzag pattern and the distinct seperation of the two sides. just my 2 cents.
