Happy Valentine!

My valentines are not ready. As I have in the past, I made a small fabric piece that I will photocopy and send with my annual letter. Time got away from me, so they will be late. These valentines are what I do instead of Christmas cards. So, to those to whom I mail an actual card—it's coming. For everyone in blogland I send you this valentine greeting. I love you all!

Now, you can help me decide something. What color paper should I mount the print on?

  1. Red or blue. Black isn't lovey enough (lack of hot pink buttons), and the yellow is the wrong shade.

  2. Aw shucks, I was going to say black! It makes the image more crisp looking. My second choice is red.

Great idea to send the after-holiday cards, sure gives a more sincere feelilng to it when you have time to put some heart into it. No pun intended.

Red --- keeps with the holiday and looks the best with the print.

  5. The quilting of the crow is simply mingulia! -- oups -- that was the wordverification.

I'm with QuiltingFitzy. I like black the best. Red is my second choice because red represents Valentine's Day.

  7. I'm with Donna. Black makes the design pop. But red...

  9. Creativity is bucking the system in favor of what looks right to you.

That said, I think the black is stunning. A (crow? raven?) isn't traditional Valentine-y. Why stick with traditional for paper?

  10. It's gorgeous, I am always inspired by your work. It seems like we were on similar wavelengths, as I made a Valentine for my daughter with similar elements. I guess I'm a traditionalist in that I feel "Valentines" should feel light and springy, and the background color you used feels more like fall to me. I love all the wonderful textures you used in the fabric prints. Are they commercial fabrics or did you make them yourself?

  11. I like yellow even if no one else does.

  12. Black makes the red heart pop. Red is more Valentiney and makes the black crow pop. So I say, yellow--really focuses on the whole quilt piece.

  13. All four colors are lovely! They each do something different to the piece! I think the yellow makes the piece pop the most - but the red is nice if you want to emphasize the valentine-ness of it all!

  14. Black is good but I kind of like the yellow, makes think of Spring. Whatever you choose will be good. I am looking forward to the letter.

I was particularly late with Christmas this season so I understand.

  16. Happy Valentine's Day to you, too.

How about 2 layers of paper? Both red and black?

I like the red best--and not just because it's a valentine. The red warms it.
I'm looking forward to the valentine in my mailbox!

  18. I like the red best...though the blue is kinda interesting too...

  19. Do you need another opinion.....I sort of like the blue. It brings out the depth of the bird and the sashing on the quilt. :)

  20. Red if it's a Valentine. Black otherwise. What ever this sets upon it is truly wonderful!

    I like the black.
Many times I mount on a layer of black then another under that for the actual card.

  22. Happy Valentines Day. I vote for the red. I make valentines for my friends instead of Christmas cards too. Have a good one. I used to live in Ashland too but we moved to Gold Beach...
